A New Vision | Partner

A New Vision is a not-for-profit organisation registered in Singapore since 2011.

Their mission is to eradicate curable blindness and to restore the sights of the poor with quick one-off cataract surgery. Over the last 9 years A New Vision has since restored the sight of over 30,000 eyes in the Asia region.

WAH's partnership with A New Vision has helped to restore eyesight and renew the lives of many poor and blind, who could not afford the surgery. The long term plan is to develop a centre of excellence for eye care in the province to reduce the blindness rate. This can be achieved by training local healthcare workers to improve their knowledge of eye health. The knowledge of eye health can also be extended to the villagers. Community ophthalmology empowers the local community to understand the common eye diseases and to encourage the villagers to seek treatment.

WAH Foundation ran a cataract surgical outreach between 11-14 June 2019 at Kampong Chhnang Eye Unit, located at the Provincial Hospital. The medical team from a Tilganga eye hospital in Nepal, together with one surgeon from Indonesia, and a local Cambodian eye doctor carried out 347 cataract operations on 285 people, and after one day of rest, gave them back their eyesight, with an operation which lasted 5-8 minutes per eye.

WAH will be planning annual cataract missions once the Covid-19 situation has improved.
