Rice water or Kanji (as its also called in Asia) is a starchy mixture which is ideal for rehydrating children when suffering from diarrhoea and nausea. Rice water will also replenish nutrients in the body. Rice water can be used as a re-hydration fluid when the infant is suffering from diarrhoea or vomiting, to replace the lost fluids.

Rice water is packed with vitamin B; Niacin, riboflavin and thiamine ― different forms of vitamin B, are vital for the baby’s physical and mental development, are found in rice. The nutritional content of rice water is derived from the minerals and nutrients found in the water the rice had been boiled in.

WAH has been bringing awareness to local communities for many years on the benefits of drinking the water which the rice has been cooked in. This is especially for children suffering from diarrhoea. When rice is cooked, the water retains all the nutrients from the water, which is clean through boiling, and perfect as a source of minerals. Every family in Cambodia cook rice every day. Rice water is a perfect drink for hydrating children. WAH is constantly educating local communities about the benefits of rice water.
